Safe standards
and certifications explained.
Independent Testing
Don't just take the manufacturer's word for it.
A certified safe has been independently tested and verified to perform to a specific standard. That certification plate inside the door is your assurance — not a marketing claim. Without independent certification, there’s no reliable way to know how a safe will actually perform under pressure.
All products supplied by SSC meet recognised Australian and international certification standards.
Burglary ratings
Security Cabinets
Security cabinets are rated S1 and S2 under EN 11450. These grades cover basic to intermediate burglary resistance for cabinet-style storage.
Safes & Vaults
Safes and vault doors are graded from Grade 0 to Grade XIII under EN 1143-1, and from TL-15 to Class 3 under UL 687 and UL 608. The higher the grade, the greater the resistance and cash rating.
High Security Locks
Locks are independently graded to EN 1300 or UL 1034. Security doors, windows and partitions are rated RC1 to RC6 under EN 1127.
Different contents, different standards.
For data media protection, products should carry ECB•S EN 1047-1, UL 72 Class 125 or NT Fire 017 DIS certification. These standards monitor internal temperature through the full cooling period — critical because internal temperatures can peak six to eight hours after a fire is extinguished. For document protection, look for UL72 Class 350, ECB•S EN 1047-1, EN 15659 or NT Fire 017 certification.
SCEC endorsed cabinets.
The Security Construction and Equipment Committee (SCEC) is the Australian Government body responsible for evaluating security equipment used by government departments and agencies. SCEC endorsed cabinets meet strict requirements for the storage of classified government documents. All Class B and C cabinets supplied by SSC carry full SCEC endorsement.
